Donald Payne, Sr. 78 went to be with the Lord at his home in Monessen following a long illness on January 19, 2018 with his family at his side. Born February 24, 1939 to the late Elizabeth Payne, Donald graduated from Monessen High School and worked at Lee Norse before joining the United States Army. During his 30 year military career Donald earned 3 purple hearts, a bronze star and several other medals. Donald was well known for singing throughout the Mon Valley and was a member of the group Prophets of Joy. Upon his retirement from the Army he worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service in Harrisburg, Pa. after which Donald returned to live out his years in Monessen. In addition to his mother, Donald was preceded in death by a daughter Vanessa, a grandson Michael, brothers; Arthur, Russell and John, Sisters; Nadine Emily, and Cleo. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Donna, children; Rhonda, Robin (Jeff) of Clairton, Donald, Jr., Aaron, Chauncy and Jack of Monessen, Yancy of Ohio, Dominick (Roberta) of Harrisburg, Joel of Belle Vernon, Justin of Reading, Brandon (Chantel) of Connellsville and Erika of Powder Springs, Ga. Also Surviving are brothers; William and Sylvester and sisters; Noryne (Major) and Jessie all of Monessen, along with 24 grandchildren 33 Great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Friends will be received Monday January 22, 2018 from 4:00- 8:00 pm and Tuesday January 23, 2018 from 10:00 - 1100 am at Union Baptist Church, 670 McMahon Ave. Monessen, Pa. Homegoing service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 at Union Baptist church Monessen.
